Hey there, and welcome to the Retroverse.
I’m Brian Richards, a lifelong creative with a love for retro design, storytelling, and digital expression. If you’ve landed here at the Retroverse, you’re probably a fellow traveler who enjoys the charm of the past mixed with a hint of the future. You’re in the right place.
This isn’t my first blog. Some of you may remember jigmusicblog.com, my earlier space focused on DJ culture and music discovery. Music is still a huge part of my life (you can still catch me streaming weekly on Twitch), but I wanted to channel all my creative energy into something that blends my passions: midcentury aesthetics, nostalgic Americana, sci-fi dreams, and the magic of modern tools.
So what is Retroverse?
Retroverse is a digital creative brand that lives at the intersection of vintage inspiration and forward-thinking ideas. It’s built around my fascination with midcentury modern style, classic diners, neon lights, flying cars, pulp magazine illustrations, and how those past visions of the future continue to inspire us today.
With Retroverse, I’m creating art, digital tools, blog content, and stories that reflect those influences while embracing what today’s technology makes possible. Think of it as a sandbox for creativity, where 1950s charm meets digital-age design.
Why the shift?
Over time, I realized my creative world had grown far beyond music. I started exploring visual design, generative art, and storytelling in new ways—and I wanted a home for all of it. Retroverse gives me that home. It’s where I can build a brand that’s fun, deeply personal, and built to grow.
But don’t worry—music still plays a huge part in what I do. You’ll find nods to sound, rhythm, and vintage audio tech woven throughout my work. And if you miss the music side of things, stop by my Twitch channel to catch a live stream.
